No matter what level you occupy in an organization, timely, ongoing, accurate feedback is the best tool for improving yourself and helping others develop. Whether we are catching people doing it "right" or catching our people early in their mistakes to help them avoid bad habits, giving meaningful and effective feedback is an important component to helping people develop and to getting the job done. Creating and delivering a specific message based on observed performance is the key to effective feedback. Effective feedback should enable the receiver to walk away understanding exactly what he or she did and what impact it had on you.
This new Leading Effectively Webinar from the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) shares insights from more than three decades of experience. In this session, the following will be addressed:
- An overview of why feedback is important to success
- Common mistakes in giving feedback
- Three steps to giving effective feedback
- Ten key traps to watch out for when giving feedback
Maximizing the Value of the Webinar
- Invite others to participate. Structure a group "lunch and learn" session and invite other colleagues to attend.
- Debrief the lessons learned. Set aside time at the end of the Webinar to discuss takeaways, and how they apply to your group or organization
- Tap into your training budget. Ask your HR group or manager to underwrite the Webinar as part of your organization's ongoing staff development effort.
