Hard working individuals and groups are often not adequately recognized for their skills and contributions. Self-Promotion is an important skill to gain visibility, communicate value for you and your team and is essential to being an effective leader. Unfortunately, a 2005 CCL survey confirms that many leaders associate self-promotion with bragging, showing off or selling out. At the same time, self-promotion is seen as important to career success. This perception that self-promotion is a necessary evil often prevents individuals and leaders from leveraging their real value to the organization.

A new Selling Yourself Without Selling Out webinar from the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL®) shares insights from the guidebook, Selling Yourself Without Selling Out: A Leader's Guide to Ethical Self-Promotion. The heart of this guidebook is that self-promotion is a valuable and beneficial way to add value to the organization and be recognized for your efforts. The webinar focuses on ways to more intentionally and discerningly practice the skills of self-promotion without the aversion.

In this session we will:

  • Discuss benefits to the individual, team and organization
  • Show how you can authentically self-promote
  • Reframe common beliefs that get in the way into useful tactics
  • Provide useful strategies and activities to effectively self-promote

Maximizing the Value of the Webinar

  • Invite others to participate. Structure a group "lunch and learn" session and invite other colleagues to attend.
  • Debrief the lessons learned. Set aside time at the end of the Webinar to discuss takeaways, and how they apply to your group or organization
  • Tap into your training budget. Ask your HR group or manager to underwrite the Webinar as part of your organization's ongoing staff development effort.
