Leadership in Action aims to help practicing leaders and those who train and develop practicing leaders by providing them with insights gained in the course of CCL's educational and research activities. It also aims to provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas between practitioners and CCL staff and associates.

  • Thinking Straight: New Strategies Are Needed for Ethical Leadership
    Why do some leaders continue to make ethical mistakes? Most leaders, when asked to imagine what they would do if they found themselves in an ethical dilemma similar to those faced by leaders who have failed the integrity test in the past, say they would not behave in the same way. Recent research suggests that only when leaders begin to use specific strategies aimed directly at addressing certain biases and situational pressures will they be able to avoid ethical problems.

The first is scanning your organization's environment: this clarifies your situation in relation to the people you have to influence as part of selling your ideas. The second is collecting tactics you can employ when you begin trying to sell your ideas. Taking these two steps will increase your ideas' chances of not only surviving but thriving.
