Faculty members from the Center for Creative Leadership are widely published and often quoted in general, business and trade media outlets worldwide. Below is a sampling of coverage CCL has received.
- The CCL Guide to Leadership in Action, published by Jossey-Bass, receives an upbeat review in the April 2005 issue. "This book doesn't seem to be like most other edited books on leadership. It makes you reflect. ... [editors Martin Wilcox and Steve Rush] assembled a group of thirty-seven very thoughtful people, and each of the vignettes seems to have something different, edgy, or thought provoking," the review says.
- CCL faculty members Joan Gurvis and Mary Lynn Pulley explore the characteristics shared by individuals who are able to recover and learn from hardships in the July/August 2004 issue. "If you haven't already experienced a professional or personal setback, you will - inevitably," they write. "How you deal with it will determine whether you will reach your full potential or will derail by reaching a plateau, getting demoted, or losing your job."

- Senior faculty member David Magellan Horth explains how mixing work and fun can increase employee motivation and productivity in the September 2004 issue. "People think a productive workforce and a creative workforce are diametrically opposed," Horth says. "In reality, creativity in an organization directly correlates with productivity."

- CCL senior fellow David Campbell is quoted in a March 2005 article in BusinessWeek Online about the value of experiential leadership development programs, which are rising in popularity around the U.S. Extensive daily debriefing serves as the final, and perhaps most important, element of the leadership courses. In a safe environment, students examine the day's leadership decisions. "The exercise is a learning experience, but if you don't have the debriefing, then you're missing out on a lot. It's extremely powerful," says David Campbell of the Center for Creative Leadership.

- CCL's Gary Rhodes is one of four contributors nationally to the January 2005 issue who provide commentaries for the magazine's monthly HBR Case Study, a fictional case which this time spotlights the challenges of office politics in a multinational company and offers suggested actions by experts. Rhodes discusses approaches for handling politics and advancement in this type of corporate setting.

- Harvard Business School recently published a case study on CCL that explores our history, services, educational approach and impact. Developed by a team of Harvard researchers who interviewed many CCL executives, faculty and staff, the study offers a comprehensive overview of CCL's work and mission. Download a PDF of the article.
Harvard Business School Working Knowledge
- A positive review of Becoming a Strategic Leader: Your Role in Your Organization's Enduring Success, by CCL faculty members Rich Hughes and Kate Beatty, appears in a July 2005 issue.
- The CCL Guide to Leadership in Action receives a favorable review in Harvard Business School's weekly e-newsletter in June 2004. "As an all-around guide to the complexity of leadership, this is an accessible and valuable entry point," the review says of the CCL/Jossey-Bass book. (more...)

- John Fleenor, CCL's group director of knowledge and innovation resources, is quoted in the September 2005 issue in an article about how organizations communicate with employees during times of change.
- A positive review of Becoming a Strategic Leader, by CCL faculty members Rich Hughes and Kate Beatty, appears in the July 2005 issue. The review outlined the skills of strategic thinking, strategic acting, and strategic influencing that Rich and Kate explore in their book; it also highlighted a variety of exercises that are included in the book.
- CCL is featured prominently in a December 2004 article about how the U.S. Air Force has revamped its approach to leadership development.
- CCL's Kim Kanaga discusses strategies in a July 2004 article that bosses can use for dealing with critical feedback from employees. The faster you react to criticism, the more likely you are to react inappropriately, Kanaga says.
Journal of Business and Psychology
- The Journal of Business and Psychology released a special issue in June 2010, entitled Millennials at Work: What you didn't know you didn't know edited by the Center for Creative Leadership's David G. Altman and Jennifer J. Deal. This special issue, a definitive collection of top-quality empirical and review articles, explains new research on generational differences to help both researchers and practitioners better understand the realities of generational similarities and differences. Collectively, the articles in this issue debunk urban myths and stereotypes about Millennials that are rampant in the popular press. These articles also provide many practical suggestions about how practitioners can use the research available to inform decisions they make about working with Millennials.
- CCL President John Alexander discusses CCL's philosophy and activities, as well as how the role of the CEO in organizations worldwide has changed over the years, in the Summer 2004 issue.
- Roger Conway, Corey Criswell and Michael Campbell author an article in the May 2006 issue that discusses CCL's research on executive churn and what organizations can do to bring successful CEOs on board.
