The Kenneth E. Clark Student Research Award

Call for Papers

The Center for Creative Leadership is sponsoring the annual Kenneth E. Clark Student Research Award to recognize outstanding unpublished papers by undergraduate and graduate students.

Robyn L. BrouerRobyn L. Brouer won the 2007 award. Her paper is titled The Role of Political Skill in the Leadership Process-Work Outcomes Relationships. The purpose of the research was to examine a model of leadership that includes leader political skill, leader-member-exchange (LMX), follower motivation, followers? trust in their leaders, follower organizational commitment, and follower performance.

The Kenneth E. Clark Student Research Award recognizes outstanding unpublished papers by undergraduate and graduate students. The award is named in memory of Kenneth Clark, distinguished scholar and former president of CCL. The winner receives a prize of $1,500 and a trip to the Center to present the paper in a colloquium. The Walter F. Ulmer Jr. Applied Research Award

Dr. Gary Yukl

Dr. Gary Yukl, Professor of Management and Psychology at University at Albany - SUNY, received the 2006 Walter F. Ulmer, Jr. Applied Research Award.  He is also the Management department chairperson.  Dr. Yukl is a Fellow of the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, the Society of Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and the American Psychological Society.  His current research and teaching interests include:  leadership, power and influence, and management development.

The Walter F. Ulmer Jr. Applied Research Award is designed to recognize outstanding field research and its creative application to the practice of leadership. The award was named in honor of Walter F. Ulmer, Jr., retired president of the Center.

Leadership Quarterly Award

Dr. Joyce Bono

A paper coauthored by Dr. Joyce Bono, an Associate Professor in the Center for Human Resources and Industrial Relations at the University of Minnesota, and by Dr. Remus Ilies, Associate Professor at The Eli Broad Graduate School of Management Michigan State University, was selected for the 2006 Leadership Quarterly Award. Bono presented their paper on "Charisma, Positive Emotions and Mood Contagion" at the Center in January 2008.

The joint award for best paper is annually presented by the Center and The Leadership Quarterly. The award includes a citation, cash award and invitation to visit CCL.
